Year of Wild Growth

Most New Year’s, I boycott resolutions. I’m a rebel at heart, soft as I may seem in person. Most of my life, when I want to make a change, I find a time that’s right around the corner, I get ready, and take the leap. It’s usually not around January.

This New Year’s, I somehow wound up with a list of resolutions. Part of it is because I’m surfing higher, I’m following Ashley’s call – it’s time for a revolution. I’m riding life with more blind faith than ever. My blind faith is telling me that I can do all of these things, simply because I want to. And it just happens to be the new year. Coincidence? Or is the Universe sending me a sign?

Here’s my list of resolutions, which I personally see as my ‘life plans’:

  • Commit to 100% veganism at home:
  • Continue simplifying and greening my daily life:
    • Become an expert in paper-free living [currently I still feel like a trainee]
    • Learn how to can and preserve food
    • Start a regular, perhaps weekly, yoga or meditation practice
    • Get involved with the SF Urban Agriculture Alliance, perhaps dip my feet into political organizing
    • Keep exploring DIY projects and solutions
  • Connect with people. Continue honing my confidence and social skills.
  • Write a manifesto
  • Inspire my readers
  • Monetize my blog, begin exploring sustainable business practices
  • Prepare for graduate research fellowships

It looks like a lot, but most of it boils down to this: I’m ready to take the leap into sustainable simplicity. I’m ready to ride the waves of my blind faith and passion. I’m not burning my boats because I’m multi-passionate, and have trouble to committing to one thing. I believe I can sow multiple seeds, and nurture each to blossom. If there’s too much growth, I’ll pick out the suffering ones so that the others can grow stronger.

What’s in store for you this year? Do you too feel a swell of new adventures around the corner?

How will you harness your passion for personal transformation or social good this year?

How exciting, Lynn. I love your belief in yourself and your big vision. Go wild! Go for it!

I’m really attracted to the idea of “paper-free living.” I switched to a Kingle last year. Not all books are available for that medium, but it’s a good start. I’m attracted to this idea, but I find there are some things I need to see in writing – like my planning documents and calendar – or they aren’t useful to me. I will love to see how this evolves for you.

I’m in a different phase of my life that centers around relaxation and healing. My word for the year is “healing.”

Thanks, Sandra! Yes, it sounds wild! I hope it all works out. I think paper-free for me is more of a disposables to reusables kind of transition. I haven’t worked out paper books and notebooks yet, but I’ll start thinking about it.

Healing sounds wonderful! I can’t wait to hear about your journey :)

    Hi Lynn!

Yes, I definitely do feel the “swell of new adventures” – and love how you worded that. ;) I’m like you, I was never really one to set new year resolutions. Or plan for the new year at all.

But it’s different for me this year too. All the way through December I felt like THIS is the year, that now is my time to really kick ass and go after what I want – and there’s no way I want to just leave it to chance, it’s time to do some serious planning and scheduling for it. ;)

So I’ve spent some time looking at the year ahead and deciding what I want to happen, what I want to experience. And I certainly didn’t plan EVERYTHING out, but I have a theme for the year, some key things to focus on, and am working on clearing out the clutter to make room for the exciting new things that will be coming along. :)

Hurray for a kick-ass 2011! ;) I’m looking forward to seeing what you get up to this year, as well! :D

Thanks, Jess! Glad we are feeling the same things! I definitely felt that through December – this is the year! I agree with serious planning – I’ve never been too great at that, but I feel way more motivated and committed all of a sudden. :P

Woohoo! I’m excited to hear about your journey too! :)

Yes to Green Smoothies! Great list of life plans, Lynn!

I’m pouring all I’ve got into my site, where I blog about playing the guitar as a spiritual and personal development practice.

And three weeks from now, I will be finished with my biggest recording project yet, which is all about harnessing passion in service to Harmony and Love…

Can’t wait to see how your life plans grow, evolve and flower over 2011!

    • Lynn Fang says:

Hi Matt, Thank you so much and nice to meet you! I really like your site – it looks like a great resource for a beginning guitar student. Also love the teaching philosophy – I see teaching as a collaboration between teacher and student, and that really comes through in your style. Best of luck to you in the new year!

First time stopping by your site and what a perfect post to start it all out! It’s so exciting to see so many people taking the plunge and resolving to radically change their lives in 2011! I’m right there with you!
