If you’re new here, I’m participating in the No Impact Project Experiment, a one-week experiment to see whether reducing my impact will leave me for better or worse. For a brief overview of the whole week, see my last entry. It’s not too late to sign up if you’re still interested!
Tuesday – Transportation
Tuesday is about reducing your emissions from transportation. Don’t drive, take public transit. Walk or bike if you can.
As I last mentioned, I biked to work on Tuesday, and it felt really awesome! So far I’ve biked to work Tuesday and Wednesday. I will try to bike to work on Friday as well.
Trash for today: granola bar wrap, chip bag, ice cream cone wrapper (I shouldn’t have fallen for that, that was avoidable. Next time I crave ice cream, I’ll just do like Beth Terry says and get a cone.)
Wednesday – Food
Wednesday is about eating local organic vegan food. This cuts down on oil used to transport food, chemicals used to grow food, and animals used for their meat or byproducts. That’s a HUGE resource savings!
I already try to only eat local organic vegan food. When I eat out it’s usually local and vegan, though not always organic. On Wednesday I had local toast [from the farmer's market] and Earth Balance for breakfast, an all-organic and local sandwich for lunch, and another sandwich for dinner. Sandwiches are a staple in my diet.
Trash for today: plastic granola bag
Thursday – Energy
Today is about unplugging stuff and using less energy.
I plan to keep my laptop unplugged until I need to recharge it. Then, when finished, unplug.
That’s all for now! I plan to devote a more detailed entry to Friday’s water challenge. I’m planning to take shorter, cooler showers and wash my dishes in a pail of soapy water.

Great work, Lynn. I’m excited to do many of the same things in my challenge (just went to the farmers market yesterday, and it was awesome). A tip: I’ve found a great way to reduce my water use in the shower is to get wet, then turn off the water and use a poof to get clean, and finally turn the water back on to rinse. I can’t even tell you how much water it ends up saving, and then I’m not freezing through a cold shower the whole time.
Good luck,
Haidn
Thanks, Haidn! Great idea on the showering, I did that once when our water heater broke and all we had was freezing cold water. Maybe I can do it regularly, we’ll see!
